Per Wickstrom’s Latest Blog Post Asks If Parents Are Unknowingly Encouraging Their Child’s Substance Abuse Problem
(PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- In his latest blog post at http://www.perwickstrom.com, entrepreneur, author, speaker and drug treatment facility CEO Per Wickstrom is asking parents what could be the most important question they’ll ever be asked: are you unknowingly encouraging your child’s substance abuse problem?
“At first glance, the question is shocking – even offensive,” commented Per Wickstrom. “However, what’s even more shocking is when thousands of well-meaning parents each year discover that they unwittingly played a role in their child’s drug problem. This doesn’t mean that they were necessarily bad or neglectful parents. It often means that they simply didn’t have the awareness and tools. Hopefully, my latest blog post will help some parents out there grasp what they need to know now – not later, when it may be too late.”
According to Per Wickstrom’s blog post, ways that some parents may be unwittingly encouraging their child’s substance abuse problem include:
- Failing to monitor prescription pain medication in the home
- Failing to monitor any alcohol – including beer, wine, coolers, etc. – in the home
- Taking a casual approach to so-called “softer” drugs, such as marijuana, hashish so on and making comments like “those aren’t really addictive” and “I experimented as a kid and I turned out OK”
- An unwillingness or inability to have a direct talk with their child about his or her possible drug use
