It’s easy to get lost in the marketing jargon and lose sight of the fact that a brand is, fundamentally, a promise.

In his latest blog post at http://www.perwickstrom.com, entrepreneur, author, speaker and drug treatment facility CEO Per Wickstrom is focusing on how to manage brand perception.
According to Per Wickstrom, a brand is not a marketing construct or tactic. Rather, it’s an underlying and over-arching representation of everything that an organization stands for, believes in, and aspires to achieve for itself and, especially, for its target market.
“It’s easy to get lost in the marketing jargon and lose sight of the fact that a brand is, fundamentally, a promise,” commented Per Wickstrom. “And as such, managing a brand is essentially about choosing ambitious yet achievable promises, and consistently delivering on them. There are no short-cuts to building a valuable brand, and everyone in the organization – from the CEO to the intern – should be aware that everything they do, both big and small, will be evaluated in light of the promises made by the brand.”
Per Wickstrom’s key tips for managing brand perception include:
- Deliver on promises or exceed them – without exception
- It’s fine to have brands within brands, provided that they’re all aligned and pointing in the same direction
- Brands must be tracked and monitored, just like any other valuable and influential organizational asset
- Managing expansion and growth is an integral part of successfully evolving a brand and driving it forward into the future
