Per Wickstrom’s New Blog Looks at 3 Threats to an Individual’s Rehab Program and How to Deal with Them
(PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- In his latest blog post on http://www.PerWickstrom.com, the Founder of Best Drug Rehabilitation Per Wickstrom is focusing on the top three threats to an individual’s rehab program – and just as importantly, how to smartly and safely deal with them.
"I know from both personal and professional experience that rehab is a process with ups and downs," commented Per Wickstrom, who successfully dealt with addiction in the past and uses that awareness and insight to help others on the road to recovery. "And it’s essential for individuals recovering from addiction, and their family members and other caregivers, to know what some of the biggest challenges are going to be -- and how to face them and deal with them the right way."
According to Per Wickstrom, threats to an individual’s rehab program include:
1. Lack of initial commitment: individuals often don’t realize just how vital their willpower is to whether their program is successful -- or unsuccessful. Regardless of their unique circumstances or the dynamics of their customized and personalized recovery plan, each individual must start by committing themselves 100% to their program.
2. Lack of ongoing commitment: the road to recovery can last for weeks, months or in some cases, years. And since patients have the right to discontinue and "walk out" of their program at anytime, it’s essential that they constantly re-commit themselves to staying the course. This is often easier said than done, since there are a variety of factors that can impede an individual’s progress, such as negative peer pressure (i.e. friends and associates who don’t want them to get sober), financial considerations and more.
3. Unwillingness to put themselves first: many individuals suffering from addiction are labelled as selfish – however, the truth is often completely the opposite. It’s because individuals have low self esteem and are always putting others first -- whether it’s friends, family members, or even the requirements of a demanding job -- that they end up coping with alcohol and drugs. As such, individuals have to be willing to put themselves first and focus on their own health and recovery. Remarkably, when they do this, they’re also in a much stronger position to truly help others and make a profound contribution, whether it’s as a parent or sibling, a friend, a colleague, or simply as an inspiring human being who is willing to help others in small and big ways.
"What’s clear from these threats is that the challenges and obstacles aren’t tangible – it’s not like people need to avoid a certain person or place," commented Per Wickstrom. "These threats are about attitude and orientation. And when those are focused in the right direction, and together with the right support system and a strong, personalized plan, individuals substantially increase their chances of successfully completing their program, and living the healthy, addiction-free life they want and deserve."
