Pharmacy Times Continuing Education to Offer Care Transitions Conference to Pharmacists in Three Cities Nationwide in 2016
Plainsboro, N.J. (PRWEB) November 23, 2015 -- Pharmacists will meet in three cities nationwide to focus on their expanding role in helping patients manage medication and avoid hospital readmissions at the 6th Annual Directions in Pharmacy® (DIP) continuing education conference next spring.
The unique program will provide continuing education sessions about how pharmacists can work with patients transitioning between healthcare settings and helping patients manage chronic illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes, all major challenges facing the nation’s healthcare system. The conference is sponsored by Pharmacy Times Continuing Education(PTCE), a leader in continuing education intended for community, health-system, managed care and specialty pharmacists. It will be held on March 12, at the flagship location in Plainsboro, NJ, followed by Anaheim, Calif., on April 9, and Dallas, Texas, on May 21.
“We are pleased to expand this program to our learners in other parts of the country in 2016 so they can experience expert-led, live continuing education that addresses topics most relevant to their practice in an environment that is most conducive to learning,” said Dave Heckard, president of Pharmacy Times Continuing Education, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
Last year’s Directions in Pharmacy® conference drew over 300 pharmacists from across the mid-Atlantic, four times the number who attended during the inaugural conference in 2011. Heckard said growing demand prompted the conference’s expansion to central and western U.S., adding that the program receives accolades from participants each year.
With the addition of a seventh session to the already robust agenda this year, the conference offers attending pharmacists the chance to fulfill state requirements for licensure by earning up to seven live continuing education credits in one day. Nationally recognized speakers will deliver sessions on transition of care for cardiovascular and respiratory disease. Additional topics include opioid-induced constipation and new treatments for diabetes.
The conference also provides pharmacists opportunities to meet national and regional thought leaders in pharmacy and to network with current and former colleagues.
“Some say ‘just go online to get your credits,’ but I enjoy seeing colleagues in person, talking to them, interacting, and a live lecture is always a little more fun than staring at a computer,” said Douglas Wessel, a consultant pharmacist who attended the conference in 2015.
