Philomina U. Emeka-Iheukwu’s New Book Addresses Childhood Obesity
Rochester, N.Y. (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 -- Childhood obesity has been a growing epidemic in the United States, with percentages of obese kids doubling over the last 30 years, reports the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Author Philomina U. Emeka-Iheukwu, who has struggled with her own weight loss, feels that children need to be taught from a young age about eating well. Her new children’s book, “Children Who Eat Their Fruits and Vegetables: More Veggies Please!” (published by iUniverse), is a valuable guide to healthy eating for children and their parents.
“There is an urgent need for healthy eating and weight-loss right now in American,” says Emeka-Iheukwu. “This book is a solid tool to get a person started by learning what better food options are available, as well as their health benefits.”
Packed with colorful illustrations, “Children Who Eat Their Fruits and Vegetables” teaches children about the many different types of fruits and vegetables, their benefits and the benefits of eating healthy overtime. Emeka-Iheukwu uses poetic verse to convey her message and entertain readers.
In 2012, the CDC reported that over one third of children were considered overweight or obese. Emeka-Iheukwu hopes her book will educate children about making healthy food choices and bring that number down for good.
