Photobucket Introduces Mobile Animated GIF Maker at Denver Comic Con
Denver, CO (PRWEB) June 11, 2014 -- Photobucket Corporation, the world’s leading dedicated photo and video sharing service, will debut the Photobucket Animated GIF Maker for the iPhone and Android devices at this week’s Denver Comic Con. Now all 20 million Photobucket mobile users will be able to create their own animated GIFs to share on Photobucket, social networks, forums and blogs. The Animated GIF Maker is available now on the Photobucket mobile app for iOS users and is coming soon to Android users. The app is free to download through the iTunes and the Google Play stores.
First held in 2012, this year’s Denver Comic Con is expected to bring together 75,000 attendees from different industries and backgrounds, using pop culture to educate and promote creative diversity and tolerance. “We're always seeking out creative ideas. With all the amazing things happening at Denver Comic Con, we think Photobucket's GIF Maker is a really great new way to capture, save and share all those memorable moments,” says Tone Ellis De Jesus, Denver Comic Con Director of Communications.
“We chose Comic Con to launch our new Animated GIF Maker because of the celebrities and creative audience that the event draws. Denver Comic Con is the perfect opportunity to showcase our new feature while capturing entertaining moments to share with the world,” said Kate Hare, Chief Product and Marketing Officer for Photobucket.
This announcement sets Photobucket apart as the first and only photo sharing company to integrate animated GIF creation into its apps. “Every day, over 20 million animated GIFs are shared from Photobucket to more than 200 million unique sites. Engagement with animated GIFs is twice as much as it is with static images. They can be quite humorous, so they get shared out a lot,” said Tom Munro, CEO of Photobucket. “We’re providing our users with a simple way to create their own animated GIFs, and we're making it easy to share them with friends and family across their favorite social sites and forums,” adds Munro.
Photobucket is home to over 15 billion images, over a billion of which are animated GIFs. An animated GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a short, looping animation or video clip in image form. Animated GIFs are now being used in everything from humorous content to instructional articles, and by journalists to help portray content. Leveraging the popularity and convenience of animated GIFs, Photobucket’s new mobile feature enables anyone to create, store, and share animated GIFs instantaneously.
Following the launch of the updated Photobucket Website in May of last year, and hot on the heels of the new mobile app experience that launched in January of this year, the Animated GIF Maker is the latest in a line of Photobucket innovations. The GIF Maker is the first of many additional features planned to be made available to all Photobucket app users.
“The recent redesign of Photobucket has allowed the company to see growth like we saw in the early days,” said Mike Clark, Chief Technology Officer at Photobucket. “Since our inception, we have always been committed to innovation and to bringing top advancements to our users,” adds Clark.
