Tucson Restaurateur Feeds the Community through Mobile Meals Non-Profit and Fall Fare Event
Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) October 17, 2014 -- A Tucson restaurateur, Mark Haddad Smith, has been dedicated to feeding the Tucson community for over forty years through his restaurants and continuous support for the non-profit, Mobile Meals, where he has fed thousands of people and raised over $50,000 over the years. Mark is coordinating the restaurants showcased for the Mobile Meal’s Fall Fare, taking place on Sunday, October 26th, at St. Philip's Plaza from 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Born and raised in Tucson, Mark Haddad Smith started working in the restaurant business in 1971, while attending college. In 1980, he opened the Eclectic Café and in 1982, Frank's and Francisco’s restaurant. Mark’s latest creation is Pionic Pizza and Pasta, located at 2643 N Campbell Ave in Tucson. Pionic Pizza and Pasta opened their doors on August 9th, giving away over 1,100 pizzas to a continuous line of customers.
As a volunteer, donor and board member for Mobile Meals, Mark has been working with this volunteer- based, non-profit for over twenty-five years. Mobile Meals helps preserve the health, dignity and independence of homebound adults by delivering special diet meals. They deliver 100,000 meals per year.
Mark’s restaurant, The Eclectic Cafe, has been doing a weekly promotion for Mobile Meals since 1997, called Mobile Meals Mondays. 5% of all lunch receipts are donated every Monday to Mobile Meals, raising in excess of $55,000 over the years. Pionic Pizza and Pasta will be joining the program in January 2015.
In addition, Mark coordinates the restaurants showcased for the Mobile Meal’s Fall Fare each year. The October 26th event takes Tucson on a culinary journey, filled with an afternoon of food, fun and a fundraising auction. People can purchase tickets online: http://www.mobilemealsoftucson.ticketbud.com/the-fall-fare-2014.
Last year, Mobile Meals Fall Fare raised $40,000 to directly benefit the program. “Mark is instrumental in working with the restaurants, silent auction items and day of coordination for all of our restaurants. Mark has a drive to feed his community. Through the various restaurants he has, the giving to charitable food causes, and his volunteer time at these agencies, all of his causes are highlighted in one event - The Fall Fare,” said, Tim Bentley, Director of Development of Mobile Meals of Tucson.
