PissedConsumer.com Reports Furniture and Mattress Purchases Among Top Consumer Complaints
New York (PRWEB) October 15, 2015 -- U.S. consumer advocacy and customer complaints website, PissedConsumer.com, reveals that furniture and mattress purchases fall among industries with the highest number of consumer complaints on the service. Tips are offered to help shoppers avoid the most commonly-reported problems.
"It's no surprise that furniture and mattress purchases receive such a high volume of consumer complaints," said Joanna Simpson of PissedConsumer.com. "These are big ticket purchases people think of as long-term investments. Quality and reasonable return and repair policies are rightly expected, but sometimes those expectations aren't met. We reviewed the data and identified some of the biggest complaints people have when purchasing these items in the hopes of helping other shoppers avoid the same."
Common complaints reported to PissedConsumer.com about furniture and mattress purchases include:
- Misleading financing and leasing terms;
- Late deliveries;
- Damaged furniture being delivered;
- Misrepresented or unclear return policies for mattresses;
- Furniture and mattress warranties not being honored.
PissedConsumer.com suggests consumers do the following before making large furniture or mattress purchases to protect themselves from these, and similar, problems:
- Look up manufacturers and retailers on online consumer reporting websites before purchasing furniture or mattresses. This can offer insight into specific issues past consumers faced when dealing with those companies.
- Don't sign off on damaged furniture when it's delivered. Immediately contact the seller to report the issues and have a replacement sent. Accepting damaged furniture on delivery may involve costly return fees if it needs to be shipped back later.
- Always carefully review the fine print of any leasing or financing agreement. If all of the terms aren't understood, don't sign it. Pay special attention to limited promotional periods on low advertised interest rates and penalties or fees charged if a payment is missed.
- Fully read warranty details before making a purchase. Warranties don't cover every type of damage that could occur. Also know that warranty coverage is sometimes subject to a physical inspection by a company representative. To speed warranty claims along, photograph items when they're new and again when damage occurs so there is a comparison point. Document routine usage and anything in particular that might have led to the damage. The more information and evidence provided when filing a claim, the quicker the process can be.
It would also be a good idea to read additional consumer complaints related to furniture and mattress purchases.
