PreDiabetes Centers Medical Advisory Board Meets in Austin
Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- The Medical Advisory Board of PreDiabetes Centers, a fast-growing national provider of prediabetes treatment, recently met at the Company’s Corporate Headquarters to review the latest prediabetes treatment and discuss clinical matters.
The Medical Advisory Board is comprised of distinguished physicians who are leaders in groundbreaking, innovative diabetes research and treatment. The Board is led by Chairman Thomas Blevins, MD, a founder of Texas Diabetes and Endocrinology–a practice devoted to implementing the latest in diabetes advances–and recipient of the American Diabetes Association Provider Recognition Award. A renowned diabetes expert, Dr. Blevins lectures and educates on diabetes and related conditions, including lipid management and thyroid disorders.
Medical Advisory Board Member George Rodgers, MD, was also in attendance. Dr. Rodgers is a cardiologist and former Medical Director at the Heart Hospital of Austin, one of the nation’s top facilities for cardiovascular care. Cardiovascular disease and diabetes are closely linked, as people with diabetes are more than twice as likely to have a heart attack or stroke.
Dr. Rodgers is a former President of the Austin Heart cardiology group and current President of the Championship Hearts Foundation and Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. His work has published in more than 40 articles in leading, peer-reviewed medical journals.
Also at the summit was Board Member Ralph DeFranzo, MD, Director of the Diabetes Research Unit at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and Deputy Director of the Texas Diabetes Institute. Dr. DeFranzo’s major research interests are focused on the treatment of type 2 diabetes and the central role of insulin resistance in metabolic syndrome (also known as insulin resistance syndrome), and the treatment of diabetic kidney disease (nephropathy).
Medical Advisory Board Member Peter Jones, MD, also attended the conference. Dr. Jones is an expert in vascular diseases and lead study clinician at Baylor University for Look AHEAD, a clinical trial studying lifestyle interventions to achieve and maintain weight loss, with a focus on type 2 diabetes. The author of numerous articles and books, Dr. Jones is Associate Professor of Medicine in Atherosclerosis and Lipid Research at Baylor College of Medicine and the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center in Houston.
Board Member Stephen Kolpecky, MD, a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic and director of Mayo Clinic’s Statin Intolerance Clinic, also attended the meeting. A Considered a cardiology expert, Dr. Kolpecky has written numerous articles for medical journals, lectures internationally on preventative cardiology, and has received multiple “Teacher of the Year” award from Mayo’s Dvision of Cardiovascular Diseases and the Department of Internal Medicine.
