The Presidential Precedent of Prayer Celebrated By National Pastors Movement at United Cry DC16 Gathering
Arlington, TX (PRWEB) March 02, 2016 -- When America is in crisis, there is a presidential precedent to ask for national prayer. Established by Washington, decreed by Lincoln and confirmed by Adams, Roosevelt and dozens of other presidents, prayer is a foundational part of our national heritage. Replicating this presidential tradition, pastors, Christian leaders, churches and individuals from all Christian streams are gathering, to pray for America’s future at United Cry DC16 on April 9, 2016, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.
“America is in crisis. People are worried about their jobs, families, future, terrorism, racial conflict and the attacks on biblical values,” states Lewis Hogan, Founder of United Cry. “George Washington created the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, to strengthen the troops, and decreed a national time of prayer during his inauguration ceremony. We are encouraging pastors to lead their communities in prayer, hope, love and unity. Only a united church can help heal a divided America.”
Diverse leaders adding their voices include Jim Garlow, Harry Jackson, Anne Graham Lotz, George Wood, Jonathan Cahn, Sammy Rodriguez, Doug Stringer, Dr. Bernice King, Larry Tomzcak, Bobby Schuller and others. The 7-hour prayer gathering will ask God for forgiveness, blessing, spiritual awakening, and declare the United States is, “One Nation, Under God.” Event organizers have created a free forty-day prayer devotional to help Americans pray.
The United Cry gathering on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial will reflect on the anniversary date of April 9, 1865, which marked the end of the Civil War. Continuing the tradition of prayer set by President Abraham Lincoln and the healing he prescribed for a divided country, one focus of United Cry DC16 will be repentance for racial division. Invited guests include the daughter and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Drs. Bernice and Alveda King.
“Washington, is considered to be the father of our nation while Lincoln was the protector our nation. Both presidents believed in the power of prayer to allow God to protect, heal and guide our nation,” explains Hogan. “We are gathering not to protest, but to pray, not to complain about policies or politics, but to honor our leaders and cry out for God’s mercy and blessings upon the United States of America. There is hope for America and we are contending for it.”
All Christian pastors, leaders, and believers are invited to lift a United Cry together at this historic, multi-ethnic, multi–generational, gathering on April 9, 2016, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The event is free but registration required. Free weekly eBooks, resources and the 40-day Prayer Devotional are available with registration.
