Compton, California (PRWEB) January 10, 2015 -- Prominent manufacturer of tires, wheels and suspension systems for the off-road industry, Pro Comp, successfully passed FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) testing for its Long-Travel Suspension Kit. Installed on a 2014 Toyota Tundra, the kit was subjected to rigorous testing using a live driver then robotics. Link Vehicle Testing in Wittmann, Arizona conducted the assessment to prove the Pro Comp suspension on the Tundra is safe and certified.
“Pro Comp is very excited to gain FMVSS approval on this kit, as we are the first manufacturer of performance suspension to do so,” says Pro Comp marketing manager Chloe Eady. “We’re constantly striving for innovation and will continue to raise the industry standards in the name of performance and safety.”
The new 4-inch Long-Travel Suspension Kit was among the truck accessories on display at SEMA in Las Vegas as a component of Pro Comp’s Tundra build. The manufacturer is dedicated to ensuring 4x4 parts in its product line are engineered to be trail and road safe.
The test begins with a driver accelerating to 50 mph and then the automated robotic system takes over in simulation mode to swerve the steering wheel. The sudden swerve determines if the system being tested will be adversely affected and compromised. Afterwards, data is analyzed to see if the technology and engineering performs under duress. Generally, manufacturers self-test their products for safety, but it is Pro Comp’s practice to seek out an impartial, third-party evaluation.
“The vehicle was very stable and had no issues passing the FMVSS test,” says John Tate, vehicle test engineer at Link Vehicle Testing. “The robotics mimic a panic lane change maneuver and the last half of the maneuver is meant to induce a lot of over-steer.”
The Link Engineering Company designs and manufactures precision test equipment and has conducted comprehensive testing for various vehicle components for over 30 years. Their Plymouth, Michigan headquarters has offices and test laboratories and other labs are located throughout the world. Link’s primary focus is on testing behind the engine components including transmissions, wheels, tires and steering system in addition to tests of Electric Motor systems including alternators and starter motors.
