Upstart Independent Publisher, Rebel Press, Acquires New Megalodon Novel
(PRWEB) November 14, 2014 -- The fifth book in the best-selling MEG series picks up where MEG: Hell’s Aquarium (Tor/Forge 2009) left off and weaves together several intense hunts that involve three of the all-time fiercest sea monsters in history: Liopleurodon ferox – largest of the pliosaurs, Livyatan melvillei, a newly-discovered prehistoric species of sperm whale, and the star of the series, Carcharodon megalodon, the 70-foot, 70,000 pound prehistoric cousin of the Great White shark.
MEG: Nightstalkers is Rebel Press’s second acquisition of an Alten novel. VOSTOK, the sequel to Alten’s popular thriller, The LOCH debuts in hardback in February. Says Alten, “The deal makes sense on several levels. VOSTOK is a crossover novel to the MEG series and serves as a prequel to MEG: Nightstalkers, and Rebel has the flexibility to release the book in stores as early as this summer.” MEG: Nightstalkers will be scheduled for release in mid-2015. VOSTOK will be released at the Reader's Legacy Choice Awards writer's conference as seen at http://readerslegacychoiceawards.com/, where Alten will be holding a seminar to share insight into how he has earned millions of dollars and produced several New York Times bestsellers as a fiction novelist.
Bantam Doubleday published MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror back in 1997. The book was an international best-seller and was optioned to more than twenty-five countries. Apelles Publishing, a division of Apelles Entertainment, which owns theatrical rights to the series, later acquired the domestic rights to the original novel, signing them over to Alten Entertainment in exchange for publishing rights for the entire MEG franchise in China.
Alten has spent the last several months revising the original MEG novel, combining it with the ebook prequel, MEG: Origins. Says Alten, “I wanted to do something special for my loyal MEGheads. Combining the ORIGINS novella with the original MEG book and including artwork commissioned over the last seventeen years makes for an entirely different reading experience. Ken Dunn (Rebel’s CEO) and I are discussing releasing this new version of MEG as a commemorative hardback in early 2015.”
Rebel’s acquisition of MEG: Nightstalkers comes as rumors about an upcoming MEG movie announcement are swirling in Hollywood, something the author could neither confirm nor deny. Alten is currently promoting his fall releases SHARKMAN (Taylor Trade) and DOG TRAINING THE AMERICAN MALE, a comedy written under the pen name L.A. Knight.
