New York Academy of Sciences and Youth Innovation Platform Rocket21 Announce Dream Big Science Competition at the United Nations
(PRWEB) September 23, 2014 -- On September 22, 2014 at the United Nations, the New York Academy of Sciences and Rocket21 announced “Dream Big H20,” a series of activities and competitions to immerse middle and high school students in addressing the issue of water scarcity. Water is increasingly becoming a scarce resource in communities all over the world, presenting students with a relevant, genuine challenge. The competition will invite students, working independently or in teams, to develop innovative solutions for one of two challenges, with opportunities to connect virtually to some of the world’s most accomplished and inspiring scientists and innovators.
The announcement came as heads of state and senior executives of major multinational corporations gathered at the United Nations for the launch of the Global STEM Alliance, a collaboration of governments, companies, schools and NGOs devoted to increasing access to STEM education for students worldwide. The Alliance is an initiative of the New York Academy of Sciences, in partnership with over 70 governments, companies, NGOs, universities and schools with participants and organizations in over 50 countries.

What better way to achieve this than by challenging the younger generation to translate STEM knowledge into real solutions for their local communities and beyond?” says Ellis Rubinstein, President and CEO, the New York Academy of Sciences. “Marrying the Academy’s scientific expertise with Rocket21’s technical and programmatic know-how around water challenges, will lead to enhanced STEM engagement for students all over the globe.”
