Rose State College Announces Short Course on Writing
Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) August 27, 2014 -- On September 19-21, Rose State College will again present the Short Course on Writing at the college's Tom Steed Community Learning Center. The presentations and breakout sessions provide impactful creative and professional advice to both writers and aspiring writers. Last year’s Short Course was attended by more than two hundred people. This year the college will expand the program with more presenters, more agents, and more contest categories. Organized by New York Times-bestselling author William Bernhardt, this conference will bring some of the nation’s most successful writers and literary agents to Oklahoma City.
More than thirty published writers, agents, editors, and others will present at the Short Course, led by Guest-of-Honor Jacqueline Mitchard, author of The Deep End of the Ocean, the first book selected for Oprah’s Book Club, and John Wooley, Hall of Fame author of more than thirty books of fiction and nonfiction. Authors will share their secrets, agents will provide one-on-one consultations with writers, and editors will talk with attendees interested in writing for their publications. The Course also includes writing contests attendees can enter at no additional cost.
Whether a person's interests lie in fiction, poetry, memoir, literary fiction, songwriting, journaling, or creative nonfiction, the workshop will have something to help everyone grow as a writer and get their works published. This Short Course will explore all aspects of why this is the best time to be a writer.
Anyone who has registered for the workshop is eligible to submit entries for each of the six Short Course Contest categories, all at no additional cost. First and second place winners will be picked in each category. The deadline for entries is September 10. More information, including how to register, can be found at rose.edu/shortcourse, or by calling 405-733-7392. To see a video interview with event organizer William Bernhard, go to rose.edu/english.
