New Memoir Tells the Story of a Marathoner’s Diagnosis and Treatment for Colorectal Cancer
CANBERRA, Australia (PRWEB) July 05, 2017 -- Wanting to share his story, Doug Limbrick wrote “Running the Marathon with Cancer: A story about life, love, running, friendships, personal growth, self discovery & surviving colorectal cancer” (published by Balboa Press AU), which conveys his experience with the major surgery that impacted him both physically and psychologically.
The book discusses the journey with cancer, complications, and the importance of love and friends. After detailing his diagnosis with colorectal cancer, Limbrick discusses the six months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiotherapy that brought on complications. He tells how he returned to running during chemotherapy as a way to regain some fitness and distract himself from the side effects of treatment. Limbrick ran while carrying a box that delivered the chemotherapy drugs to his body. Following more surgery and complications from septicemia and pneumonia, he left the hospital all set to begin the process of rehabilitation.
Limbrick hopes that through his book he can impart to readers about why and how colorectal cancer is preventable as well as communicate messages about the benefits of keeping to a healthy lifestyle.
