OncLive® Joins University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute in Strategic Alliance Partnership Program
PLAINSBORO, N.J. (PRWEB) April 08, 2015 -- OncLive® and the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute announced today that they have joined forces to share news about the institute’s latest developments through OncLive’s Strategic Alliance Partnership program.
In the new partnership, OncLive’s editorial and marketing teams will work with the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute to highlight important advances in the research and clinical trials conducted there, as well as share news about its clinical practice.
The UC Cancer Institute comprises 10 tumor site based centers: brain, breast, gastrointestinal, head and neck, lung, genitourinary, gynecologic, hematologic, malignancies/BMT, melanoma/sarcoma and ocular melanoma. The institute also provides several specialty care services, including cancer survivorship and palliative care.
The innovative survivorship program focuses on the needs of cancer survivors, including educating patients and caregivers, providing prevention strategies and offering various approaches to rehabilitation. In addition, a new screening tool will help identify patients at risk of malnutrition, a common problem among cancer patients.
The interdisciplinary palliative care team focuses on enhancing quality of life by assisting with the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of patients with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Emphasis is placed on pain and symptom management, as well as communication and coordination of care, in order to maximize the patient’s quality of life. The team includes board-certified palliative care physicians, a nurse practitioner and master’s-prepared social workers.
Mike J. Hennessy, Jr., senior vice president of the Oncology Specialty Group, which includes OncLive, and Specialty Pharmacy at Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc., said, “Our new partnership with the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute will allow us to bring important cancer news to those committed to fighting this disease. Its numerous innovative treatment programs make it an important entity to watch.”
Many of those programs are the only ones of their kind in the Cincinnati area, including treatments for advanced, inoperable liver cancer and minimally invasive lung-cancer surgery. In addition, the UC Cancer Institute has been recognized as an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
“We make a special effort to treat patients with complex and advanced disease, patients who may not find treatment elsewhere in the Cincinnati metropolitan area,” said William Barrett, M.D., director of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute. “Our new partnership with OncLive will help us share our success stories, as well as let patients know we are here for them.”
The University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute joins more than 40 other leading cancer centers, nursing schools and physician groups around the country in partnering with OncLive.
Hennessy added, “The Strategic Alliance Partnership program serves everyone committed to fighting cancer. When we work together and share our knowledge broadly, we are better armed to improve our efforts to overcome this devastating disease.”
