Superior Energy Systems’ Co-founder William Young to be Inducted Into Propane Industry Hall of Fame Class of 2017
CLEVELAND, OHIO (PRWEB) April 04, 2017 -- William Young, vice president of engineering for Superior Energy Systems, and a member of the propane industry for more than half a century, has been named to the LP Gas Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2017. The induction ceremony will be April 20, prior to the 2017 National Propane Gas Association Southeastern Convention & International Propane Expo.
The announcement was made in late November by propane industry trade publication LP Gas, which launched the Hall of Fame in propane’s centennial year of 2012 as a way to honor past and present leaders who helped establish, advance and grow the industry.
Young has been involved in more than 1,500 industry propane systems, utility peak shave plants and propane terminal builds throughout his 55-year industry career. In 2002, Young helped found Superior Energy Systems, one of the leading engineering, procurement and construction contractors for natural gas liquids.
Under Young’s engineering dedication and direction, Superior Energy Systems builds made-to-order propane vaporizers and mixers, portable and permanent rail towers, metering and odorant skids, and propane autogas dispensers. Thanks to Young’s expertise, the company has manufactured more bulk plants and trans-shipment terminals throughout the United States than any other company.
“For more than half a century, Bill Young has been dedicated to the safety and improvement of the propane industry,” said Superior Energy Systems president Donald Fernald. “And, he continues to develop new and innovative products to help Superior Energy Systems stay on the cutting edge of the propane industry.”
Young entered the propane industry in 1961 as a staff engineer at Industrial Gas, a small independent propane company in Pittsburgh. There, he worked on his first water-bath vaporizer and propane-air blender system. In 1977, he became vice president of sales and engineering for Alternate Energy Systems in Georgia, and became company president in 1983. He developed several unusual systems, such as a system for a compressor manufacturer that mixed propane and natural gas at 650 psi. He also designed an automatic system to control the ratio of air to propane for natural gas utility peak shaving plants.
After helping found Superior Energy Systems in 2002, Young helped the company sharpen its focus toward propane autogas, or propane used as a vehicle fuel. He worked with his engineering group and helped the company manufacture a wide range of propane autogas dispensing systems, including its flagship unit, the web-based PRO-Vend 2000. The PRO-Vend 2000 tracks key data like driver and vehicle identification, vehicle mileage, gallons pumped, and a virtually unlimited number of vehicles, drivers and customers. The unit is viewed as one of the most innovative in the propane industry today.
Young has been an NPGA member for more than 45 years and has been a part of that organization’s Technology, Standards and Safety Committee for more than two decades. He has remained active in numerous other NFPA committees for more than 25 years. He has logged more than 40 years of service on American National Standards Institute (ANSI) committees. In fact, Young is considered a propane industry codes watchdog, testifying in front of government entities to help lift propane restrictions and create better standards.
Young also received the Personal Distinction Award from the Canadian Gas Association in 2003, along with a 40-year Participation Award from ANSI and a Commitment & Service Award from NFPA.
