Steptoe & Johnson Announces Houston Energy Summit
Houston (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- Steptoe & Johnson PLLC spent nearly a year conducting a nationwide survey on the top legal issues facing shale gas producers. The survey results were analyzed and used to shape the agenda for the firm’s 2014 Energy Leadership Summit. The first session will be held in Houston beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Petroleum Club.
The study, “Beneath the Surface,” found that most legal disputes involve conflicts with landowners, title issues, leases and contracts. Plus, the average shale developer’s annual spend for litigation often tops three million dollars. Addressing these common issues for developers makes up a portion of the Summit agenda.
More than two dozen Steptoe & Johnson energy attorneys from Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia will be on hand for presentations and roundtable discussions with attendees during the one-day event.
Among the topics:
• Legal trends in shale gas development
• Environmental and enforcement issues
• Pooling and unitization
• Avoiding litigation
• Structuring deals and energy transactions
• What’s on the horizon
“Almost all of the survey respondents told us they expect the number of disputes to increase or remain high over the next year,” said Sharon Flanery, Steptoe & Johnson Energy and Natural Resources Department Chair. “Energy producers face many challenges, and we are confident the Summit will help them be ready.”
