Author Schulz Continues Legacy of Bradbury, Conrad, Vidal at Santa Barbara Writers Conference: June 5-10
Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) May 05, 2016 -- From June 5 -10, 2016, writers from all over the world will take their writing and industry contacts to the next level at the 44th annual Santa Barbara Writers Conference (SBWC).
Among the featured author speakers will be the multi-talented author of five novels and Seraphonium songwriter/composer, Monte Schulz, who will debut his Jazz-Age Great American Novel, "Crossing Eden". Schulz, as SBWC's closing night speaker, steps into the shoes of previous literary giants - his own father Charles M. Schulz, as well as Ray Bradbury, Barnaby Conrad, and Gore Vidal.
Since 1972, the SBWC has helped writers of all levels hone their craft, and connect their work with mentors, agents and publishers, often resulting in publishing contracts. Recently named the #3 premiere writers conference in the country by “The Writer’s Edge” publication, SBWC has provided world-class instruction, industry connections, encouragement, networking and community through workshops, lectures and panels.

Successful international authors who started at the SBWC include this year’s author speaker, Gayle Lynds, the New York Times best-selling author of such espionage thrillers as "Assassins" and "The Book of Spies". A SBWC alum, Gayle met her author husband Dennis Lynds at the conference many years ago. Sadly, Dennis passed away in 2005, but on Sunday June 5th, opening night, Gayle will accept the Ross Macdonald Award on behalf of her late husband, and will speak on Dennis’ writing career.
Other best-selling authors who began their careers at SBWC include Christopher Moore of "Lamb", Fannie Flagg of "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe", Catherine Ryan Hyde of "Pay It Forward", and many others. Author Flagg says, “You can’t imagine what this conference meant to me. If it had not been for this conference, I’d probably still be sitting on a re-run of The Dating Game somewhere.”
Aspiring screenwriters will be thrilled to hear 45-year veteran screenwriter Gerald DiPego speak on the afternoon of Thursday, June 9. DiPego is the author or five novels, including "Cheevey" and "Keeper of the City" and 33 produced screenplays, including "Sharkey’s Machine," "Phenomenon," "Message In a Bottle," "Instinct," "The Forgotten," "Angel Eyes" and "Words and Pictures." His new book is a personal, conversational book on writing called “Write!”
With over 20+ daily workshops taught by award-winning authors, poets, playwrights and screenwriters, writers of all levels will learn successful storytelling and writing techniques, focusing on story structure, voice, style, editing, characters, the mind and soul of their story, as well as how to self-publish, query agents, and market themselves.
SBWC offers the unique opportunity for writers to have their work critiqued by professional genre authors of Fiction, Non-Fiction, Memoir, Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, Mystery, Travel, Poetry, Humor, Short Story and Screenwriting.
New this year: For a nominal fee of $10 at the door, the public (non-attendees) has the opportunity to attend a 4 p.m. panel (agent, author, marketing) or an industry speaker event each afternoon, as well as hear a renowned author speak each night. These noted authors will speak and share their inspiring career paths to success, including international best-selling, award-winning and Oprah-book-pick authors Rufi Thorpe, Gayle Lynds, F.
