Registration Continues: Combat Summer Slide with ALOHA Mind Math STEM Summer Camp
Edison, NJ (PRWEB) March 17, 2017 -- Registration continues this spring for ALOHA Mind Math‘s summer camp programs. Their “STEMmer Camp,” was one of the most popular choices last year. This interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) summer camp for 10-14 year olds, uses computer gaming technology and teacher led sessions to keep the learning fun. ALOHA's STEM camp was created to interest middle school students across the U.S. in careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math). The program is designed for 10-14 year olds; advanced 9 year olds may sign up upon request. According to studies, middle school is when children begin to form their career paths. It's also when they move from concrete learning to abstract learning. Along with teacher-led projects, interactive computer missions help integrate the processes of developing a student’s interest in STEM, building awareness of STEM career opportunities, and reinforcing academic standards and skills.
Some of the “missions” kids can work on include Solving energy and transportation needs in a new city
- Building an orphanage in Haiti after an earthquake
- Building a lightweight airplane
- Increasing production of fresh foods to feed a community
Summer Camps, like those held at ALOHA learning centers in 19 states across the U.S., also help student combat Summer Slide – studies show that students who do not engage in summer learning actually score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer than they did at the beginning. ALOHA has locations in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, MA, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA.
ALOHA also runs a half-day Summer Reading Camp for kids grades 1-5. As well as their accelerated-paced Math, Reading | Writing camps for ages 5-12 where instead of meeting weekly, the sessions are held 5 days a week allowing students to move through the material at a faster pace than during the school year.
Registrations continue this spring for all camps.
