BOISE, Idaho, September 5, 2013 – Silverback Learning Solutions (http://www.silverbacklearning.com), an educator-founded technology company and developer of Mileposts™, a results-driven instructional improvement system installed in schools K-12 nationwide, today announces their full line up for SXSWedu’s Flip It, Flip It Good Panel Session. Veteran physics teacher and flipped classroom advocate, Katie Lanier joins an impressive session that will be led by Moderator, Jonathan Bergmann, TED education board member, Flipped Learning Network Treasurer & Co-Author, Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day, Dr. Jim Lewis, CEO, Silverback Learning Solutions and Prasad Ram, CEO, Gooru.
“After spending months researching the very best candidates we could find to drive the most progressive and informative flipped panel session we envisioned, we are beyond excited to finalize and share our panel session members, who are renowned for their respected work in education and technology,” said Dr. Jim Lewis, CEO of Silverback Learning Solutions. “What Jonathan has in store for our presentation promises to be unlike any session you’ve attended, and we can promise SXSWedu attendees will be talking about it now and leading up to the conference next March. His approach to a flipped session is that novel, and unique.”
“Flipped learning is re-inventing and re-energizing education, both inside and outside the classroom, helping to elevate the quality of valuable teacher/student one-on-one interactions, and compatibly empowering their use of technology,” said author, Jon Bergmann, Flipped Learning Network Treasurer. Flipping a classroom successfully doesn’t happen instantly overnight, but rather over time as teachers learn more and build their knowledge on new possibilities for their students. This is why SXSWedu and our session is so important to attendees, especially teachers, as we will provide them with a fully interactive “flipped session”, and share successful best practices, day in the life scenarios, as well as resources and real knowledge they can take back and apply to begin re-vitalizing their own classrooms.”

About Katie Lanier
Katie Lanier has been a teacher for 12 years and has taught at Allen High since 2004. Allen High is included in the Allen Independent School District, which serves a suburban community 23 miles north of Dallas, TX. Allen ISD recently named Lanier as one of its teachers of the year, where fellow educators and school administrators chose her from a group of 22 campus teachers of the year. Katie teaches physics and scientific research and design and uses a flipped classroom format for her class, which reverses the conventional teaching method by having students watch lectures recorded by their teacher at home and perform their “homework” at school. The success and effectiveness of the flipped model is evident in Lanier’s classes. Recently quoted, “The flipped class makes a big difference. We spend one-on-one time with each student every class period so we know who’s struggling.” Katie previously taught at Plano East High School and Kerr Elementary School, where she was a fifth-grade math and science teacher.
