LCR-Reader offers ease-of-use for PCB debugging along with an affordable international pricing.

Siborg Systems Inc. has recently furthered accessibility to Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader LCR-meters with the addition of Amazon.co.uk, and distributors Medin Co. Ltd., Vietnam, and Huizhou Kerui Trade Co. Ltd. in China.
Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader LCR-meters is Siborg Systems Inc.’s solution to problems testing and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology using conventional bench type testers. The traditional testers require two hands to work the long leads, as well as setting up between evaluations. Smart Tweezer offers a convenient one-handed-useable device that requires no setting up. The fully automatic device combines a set of tweezers as the probes with an LCR-meter that is able to determine the type of component and best test ranges for accurate and instantaneous measurements. By just grasping a component, loose or mounted on a PCB, between the tweezers, Smart Tweezers is able to determine the best measurement mode and measures for Inductance (L), Resistance (R), or Capacitance (C) while also measuring for secondary values such as the Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR).
There are multiple devices in the Smart Tweezers family to chose from; Smart Tweezers ST-5S, the newest in the Smart Tweezers line, are the professional quality model. The LCR-Reader was designed for non-professionals and hobbyists looking for a Smart Tweezers experience without the high price, retailing at under $200. Both models offer fully automatic measurements, best range selection and high basic accuracy in a 1 oz. device that is powered by a Li-Ion battery rechargeable via micro-USB.
Features on Smart Tweezers ST-5S:
- Automatic L, C, R and ESR values
- Basic accuracy of 0.2%
- Adjustable test signals of 0.45 and 0.9 Vrms
- Component sorting with 1%, 5%, 10% and 20% tolerance
- Continuity and diode testing
- Active and reactive impedance components displayed
- Parasitic offset subtraction feature
The LCR-Reader is the budget model in the Smart Tweezers family. This was achievable by omitting some features and having a slightly lower basic accuracy. Features include:
- Automatic L, C, R and ESR measurements
- Basic accuracy of 1% (about the same accuracy found on previous ST-2 and ST-3 models)
- Best range selection
- Fixed 0.5 Vrms test signal (this may impede on testing some types of capacitors including ceramic)
Siborg has recently added the Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader to Amazon.co.uk, catering to a wider range of European customers. With help from Amazon fulfillment, customers will have shorter wait times for their devices, as well as cheaper shipping costs. Smart Tweezers will eventually expand into the other European channels that Amazon offers, including Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
Two distributors for Asia have also been added to the ever growing list of worldwide distributors of Smart Tweezers LCR-meters. Medin Co. Ltd. in Vietnam and Huizhou Kerui Trade Co. Ltd. in China. Having these distributors, customers in Asia no longer have to wait for shipping from North America, as well as somewhere closer to home to send their devices if they need maintenance or repair.
Siborg’s Online Smart Tweezers Catalogue has recently been updated, and i’s accompanying site, the Smart Tweezers Archive, was created. These sites offer a better insight to each device through pictures, with the catalogue offering a marketplace for Smart Tweezers replacement parts, including screens, tips, housing, batteries, etc. The Archive features manuals, guides and news including new devices, discontinuations, and other major events since the beginning of Smart Tweezers.
Smart Tweezers have become a worldly recognizable device, used by many major high-tech companies on production lines, repair benches or in manufacturing. They provide highly accurate and efficient measurements with just a touch. Visit the Smart Tweezers Blog for all the latest news about Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader.
