Rapper and Singer Solomon Releases Lyric Video for New Single “The Way We Were” on VEVO
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Out rapper and singer/songwriter, Solomon celebrates the release of his latest single, “The Way We Were” with a new artistic lyric video on VEVO. One year after premiering his single, “Life Goes On...” with Out Magazine and spending countless weeks on the front of iTunes Dance page, the artist reinvents himself once again by jumping genres and crafting a heartfelt song. The single, a play on the 1973 Sydney Pollack film starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford of the same title, featuring interpolations from the film, was featured last week on Rdio’s New Music Weekly page. While Solomon has always been an open book, “The Way We Were” blows the door wide open to his personal life and upcoming debut album.
From being an openly gay rapper on Eminem’s Sirius Radio Shade45 Morning Show, opening up for Deborah Cox and Kelly Rowland, music videos on LOGO and MTV Networks, mixtapes and EP’s and a large internet following, Solomon finally gears up to release his highly anticipated debut album Why Boys Cry. “I had to get my feet wet first and record a lot of music before I could deliver an album,” Solomon explains on waiting five years. “I’m in such a good space creatively now, where even in the studio and running my own business, I just know what I want and how I want things to go. It makes sense now.”
“The Way We Were” is a preview of what is to be expected from Solomon’s debut album. “Being gay, being multiracial, having a dark past- those are the stories I’m sharing on my album,” Solomon explains the concept behind Why Boys Cry. “No one is gonna tell our story, or explain our pain. I love a good upbeat dance song, but this is my truth and I’ve waited five years to tell it. I know people will relate. These are the untold stories of why boys cry.”
While his new single explores the layers of remorse and love lost, there was a point the artist almost decided not to release it. “I finished producing the beat, got drunk, drank two bottles of red wine and wrote the song. Then I recorded it. I woke up the next morning, heard it and was a little ashamed I got so personal. But after waiting a few months, I knew I had to share it. Cause I can’t be the only person whose felt like a loser in love.”
Alongside the release of his new single and recording his debut album, he has also been working with Lady GaGa's mix master, Chew Fu, along with other selective producers. Solomon’s goal is to blend music, art, fashion and technology. He is in the midst of developing his own mobile app and fashion line. “I love how Kanye does it. I look up to him alot. As an artist I love all forms of art. And fashion is a huge inspiration for me and my music.”
After releasing his highly stylized music video for “Life Goes On...” with the help from designers like Gareth Pugh, Comme des Garçons, Kris Van Assche, DSquared and more, Solomon was invited to sit front row at various fashion shows during London Fashion Week this year. Attending shows like KTZ, House of Holland, Topshop, Belle Sauvauge, Rohmir and more, the artist was able to preview the latest collections. “Living in New York, I remember crashing fashion week and sneaking into shows. So to sit front row at all these incredible shows was unreal. But to meet some of the designers was a treat!” However, there were a few downfalls to fashion week. “The lights were so bright I was sweating like a prostitute in church!”
With so much in store for Solomon this year the artist reflect on where he began, and where he is going. “I used to think being adopted, being multiracial, being gay would all hinder me in life. But in fact, it just gave me all the tools I needs to put in my toolbox to do what I’m doing now. And I’m loving every minute of it.”
