Songs To Educate Celebrates First Week Of Summer With "Cadence Company" Performing Arts Camp
(PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- Springing into summer, Paul and Melanie Zeir, co-founders of Songs To Educate, launched the first "Cadence Company" camp for teenagers at their Humming Grove Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The five day training intensive concluded on June 26th with an inspired performance. See Video of performance excerpts here.
Cadence Company is a multi-modal creative arts ensemble which incorporates theater and storytelling, music and rhythm, song and verse, movement and dance along with multi-media visual arts into a cohesive message of hope inspired by its participants.
The five day camp involves process oriented versatility training in many art forms, leading to an experimental, interactive performance at the end of the week.
It is about giving young lives the tools to express themselves with clarity and confidence, as individuals and in group ensemble. Cadence Company involves a lot of self-discovery and collaboration in a safe ecology where experimentation and mistakes are encouraged without fear of judgment.
The greater vision of Cadence Company is to foster an experimental performing arts guild in Santa Fe where teens create their own original productions and perform them as service projects in schools and in the greater community. It is about young lives motivating each other to engage the world with creative vision and versatility.
The process of coming to a message itself is stunning. Cadence Company has developed what are called "Word Webs" which engage agile minds in a passionate dialectic around world challenges and their potential solutions...creating verse, story, song and image that convey an evocative, meaningful and constructive message.
"We never contrive or force the message," says Melanie Zeir, co-founder of Songs To Educate, "It is an organic process that has its own timings. Students of public schools are accustomed to being told what the issues are. When they come to us, it is such a liberation for their natural intelligence and problem solving creativity. It is about them finding their own voice."
"Many young people are instinctively looking for creative community service opportunities with meaning and purpose," says Paul Zeir, co-conductor of Songs to Educate and Cadence Company. "It is inspiring to work with young bright minded people genuinely seeking ways to rise to the challenges facing us all."
The result at the end of the week was pure art. The performance was a combination of improvisational and rehearsed theater, song, story, dance, rhythm and music with a strong message about bridging the divides of fear and ignorance in honor of our deep humanity.
The proof of the message though, is in the genuine hope expressed by these young human lives.
Cadence Company is a creative youth ensemble in Northern New Mexico. It is guided by the loving hearts and hands of Paul and Melanie Zeir, co-founders of Talking Hands Talking Feet and the online resource Songs To Educate.
