End the Year Successfully with Top Tips from Executive Leadership Consulting
(PRWEB) December 17, 2014 -- According to Sonya Shelton, CEO and founder of Executive Leadership Consulting, it is important for executives to properly close out the year before moving onto next year’s goals. In her book, “You’re an Executive, But Are You a Leader?” Shelton suggests doing three things as the year comes to an end; celebrate achievements, reward performance and create time for renewal.
“Planning ahead for the new year is important,” says Shelton. “But before jumping into your goals for next year, executives should focus on wrapping up this year.”
With the holiday season and anticipation of a new year, a lot of times the importance of closing the year right is overlooked. Here are some tips executives can use to end the year successfully.
1) Celebrate achievements
According to Shelton, celebrating success reinforces motivation. It’s important to take a step back and recognize the efforts put in towards achievements, even small ones. Celebrate honors and achievements in a timely and meaningful way to show gratitude toward those who do it.
2) Reward performance
Compensation, benefits and perks are always appreciated but they aren’t the only things that reward people. Small, personal recognitions provide an environment where team members feel valued and important. A handwritten note in acknowledgement of an achievement is extremely meaningful.
3) Create time for renewal
Recovery and renewal is important when going into a new year. According to Shelton, when you take time to recover- physically, mentally and spiritually- you operate from a position of strength and energy, which can also motivate others in the organization to achieve higher levels of performance.
