Curvy Island Weekend: Southern Curves Takes Plus Size Fashion to the Beach
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 08, 2013 -- October 18th through October 20th, Southern Curves––an Atlanta-based, plus-size modeling and talent advocacy movement––will be hosting Curvy Island, a weekend of fashion and sun in Jacksonville Beach, FL. Curvy Island Weekend consists of industry networking, photo-shoots, and acting and modeling workshops for curvaceous women. Southern Curves is excited to announce the following weekend festivities:
October 18: Meet & Greet (6pm-10pm)
Mix and mingle with industry professionals by the pool; and meet the Curvy Island Megashoot team. This is a free event.
October 19: Curvy Island Megashoot (9am-7pm)
The megashoot is an opportunity for new head-shots, a portfolio update or to take pictures just because you’re sexy and you know it. Participants will receive hair and makeup by Painted Image & Wardrobe Consulting, styling in designer clothes by Plush Boutique, and professional photography by JWJ Photography. Makeup is sponsored by Jay-Jill Cosmetics.
Jay Williams, owner of Jay-Jill Cosmetics, says, “The cosmetics line was created for women of color but there are a variety of products for everyone to enjoy. The models can look forward to 50 shades of foundation, neutral to bold and bright lipsticks packed with Vitamin E, C and essential oils, and hi-def pigment shadows.”
The megashoot also includes two looks on the beach, a CD of raw photos, a choice of four free edits, and a slideshow of the participant’s best shots. Brunch and healthy snacks will be served. Southern Curves is offering all this for a steal–$250.
October 20: Southern Curves Acting & Modeling Workshop (10am-1pm)
The Southern Curves workshop teaches undiscovered talent how to jumpstart their careers and be successful in the industry. Students will learn how to deliver the best monologue, market themselves as a professional model/actor, and pose properly for plus-size modeling. They will also receive hands-on experience with acting exercises, breathing techniques and constructive runway critiques. The workshop includes an exclusive Southern Curves workbook which provides expert industry information, activities and resources. It is only $75 for a workshop valued at $300.
