1. Hike the Valley of Fire – The Southwest is famous for dramatic and unique rock formations, and the Valley of Fire is one of those amazing places to visit. Visitors can view the rocks from Baja Buggy, ATVs, or helicopters; all of which are excellent. The park lives up to its name when the sun hits the formations and they appear to be on fire. Make sure to seek out Elephant Rock, the most famous statue of them all. There are several options for great hikes, ranging from novice to expert and with time slots including sunrise and sunset.
2. Las Vegas Overlook – For a hike with moderate difficulty and spectacular views of the Las Vegas Valley and Red Rock Canyon, head out about 15 miles and explore the Las Vegas Overlook. This hike is about 6 miles and generally takes from 1-3 hours. Most of this trail was formed by mountain bikers and horseback riders. This hike has portions along the edge of Blue Diamond Hill and descends back on a trail called the Boneshaker. Starpoint Resort Group knows that Children will enjoy searching for seashell imprints in the limestone along the trail. The initial climb towards the two large boulders, affectionately called the Muffins, is about 1,000 feet in elevation gain with some more climbing before reaching the overlook.
3. Lone Mountain – For a quick, 2.2 mile hike, check out Lone Mountain. Nestled in among Lone Mountain National Park, this is the perfect place for a family getaway. The peak being a short ascent up a rugged but well-traveled path to reach the summit, with stunning views in all directions. On the way, hikers will pass Saddle and Park Bench and follow the ridgeline to the summit. There are several smaller trails to explore as well as the clearly marked main trail.
