Amicus House Celebrates Nearly 20 Years Helping People Battle Addiction
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2016 -- Criminal defense attorney Steven H. Nakano is proud to announce Amicus House, which is dedicated to providing total recovery services from any substance abuse problem, is nearing nearly two decades helping people recover from addiction. “It has been an honor and a privilege for the past twenty years to be involved with this treatment facility that is dedicated to quality recovery,” said Nakano. “It has also helped many of the clients I represent as an attorney get back on the right path in life.”
One such client is a 23-year-old man, Thomas Gutierrez, with five felony cases (Case Nos. C1362567, C1241740 and C1355818) who was facing over ten years in state prison. However, with the help of attorney Nakano, he received probation and treatment at Amicus House. “I am proud to say that this young man, who was facing a lengthy prison term, is now attending college and studying Kinesiology,” said Nakano.
Nakano, who has been practicing law since 1981 with a focus on criminal defense, during the past 35 years has worked with a number of public recovery assistance programs before Amicus House. In his practice, 80% of Nakano’s clients are convicted of misdemeanors or felonies related to drugs and/or alcohol, and he usually advocates for treatment at Amicus House as an alternative to a jail or prison commitment. Amicus comes from the Latin Amicus Curiae, which means “Friend of the Court.”
“Even when the judge wants to sentence my clients to years in prison, I get them enrolled in Amicus House, and refer them to an individual psychotherapist named Ken Deaver, M.S.W., L.C.F.M.C., where his clients receive psychological evaluations as well as progress evaluations throughout their stay,” said Nakano. “My greatest legacy is the list of my former clients who have gone on to graduate from local colleges and universities, become recognized local artists and active members of our community.”
