TEW Design Studio Hosts Charitable Holiday Event to Assist Families in Need
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) December 14, 2016 -- Rima Nasser and Kimberly Coombs, co-owners of TEW Design Studio, an interior design firm, are proud to announce they recently hosted the Fourth Annual Christmas Charity Jingle & Mingle at Noir Bar & Lounge in Raleigh, NC. Attendees brought new, unwrapped toys and donations to help disadvantaged families. “We appreciate Kimberly and Rima’s efforts in collecting and donating toys and coats for children in need,” said Deanna Sheppard, of the Community Christmas Store.
“In Raleigh, we started out as a small party for friends and coworkers, which encouraged people to bring toys as donations, and it’s been growing each year,” added Nasser. “Based on increased donations and volunteer efforts, we’ve decided to make the event available to the public.”
All toys and donations benefitted the Community Christmas Store (CCS) in Virginia to help a number of families that live below the poverty line in the Roanoke Valley area, as Nasser previously volunteered at CSS and quickly realized how difficult it was to get enough new toys, coats, gifts for all ages, household items, food, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products donated every year. “It broke my heart every time someone said they needed a warm coat and we didn’t have one for them, so I decided to do whatever I could every year to bring as many toys and cold-weather items as I could to the CCS,” said Nasser. “We had about 60-80 people that came out to support us, and raised thousands of dollars and hundreds of toys.”
The mission of CCS, which helps an average of 500-700 families annually, is to assist families in need in a dignified manner during the holiday season. Its goal is for recipient families to select their Christmas items according to the individual needs and preferences of each family member.
The Fourth Annual Christmas Charity Jingle & Mingle featured free food and live music by the Jason Adamo Band. There was also big-ticket-item raffles and a contest for the ugliest Christmas sweater.
“We are so fortunate to have all the luxuries we can’t live without today,” concluded Coombs. “Imagine having to choose between your energy bill or having presents under the tree, or not being able to afford basic hygiene or feminine care products because food stamps doesn’t cover that. It is a good reminder to be thankful for what we have and that any of us can be in that situation at any moment.”
