Tampa Preparatory School Teacher to Traverse Two Hemispheres on 18,000 Mile Adventure
Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) April 16, 2014 -- Tampa Preparatory School is happy to announce that a member of the dedicated faculty, Andrew Sufficool, will be biking over 18,000 miles from Deadhorse, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina. An advocate for health and fitness, Sufficool’s adventure will be self-contained, as they will carry all of their food, water, clothing and shelter on their bicycles. He will leave in June and plans to take a year to complete this journey. An advocate for health and fitness, Sufficool has spent the last two summers on cross-country bike rides and wanted to challenge himself with his first multi-continent adventure.
Sufficool, who is in his 5th year at Tampa Prep, is focused on how to incorporate health and fitness into the daily lives of his students. As the school’s Athletic trainer and Fitness for Life instructor, he hopes this adventure will inspire students to see the benefits of staying active and living a healthy lifestyle.
“I'm not expecting all of the students to bike 18,000 miles, but I want them to find some form of activity that they really enjoy and that gets their body moving,” says Sufficool. “It needs to be something for the long haul, not just temporary. Living a healthy lifestyle enables you to enjoy a higher quality of life, do things you would've never thought you could and meet great people.”
Embarking on this trip embodies part of Tampa Prep's mission to go beyond by “fostering deeper understandings of one’s self, others and the world.” Sufficool and his brother decided on this adventure because it will offer them the chance to explore some of the most remote lands in the world, experience different cultures and promote paying it forward through random acts of kindness. His passion for biking and healthy living is quickly apparent to everyone who meets him, and the students and athletes he teaches embrace that passion.
“We are incredibly proud that Andrew is on the adventure of a lifetime,” said Tampa Prep’s Head of School Kevin Plummer. “He models for all of us at Tampa Prep the value of a commitment to healthy living, finding your passion, dreaming and a purpose higher than the self.”
