(PRWEB) December 10, 2014 -- MORPHETT VALE, Australia – Women have endured the wounds of time, trudging through history with a gradual struggle to free themselves from the clutches of tradition. Although failures have been charted, it is remarkable to note the exceptional stories of success of those women who took the courage to fight for their rights as humans of equal rights. Such story of spirit and character is portrayed in "Tanya" (published by Xlibris AU), author Marianne Malthouse's newest fiction. This historical novel tells a one-of-a-kind story of bravery, determination and survival.
From poverty-stricken beginnings to untold riches, from the wilds of the Swedish Empire to the fabulous court of Tsar Peter the Great, within the grim and fabled walls of the Kremlin, Tanya de la Verrière is swept along in a world where women are the pawns and playthings of men. Tanya is a woman born out of her time. Strong and willful, she battles against overwhelming odds to find her own way in life, to be true to herself and loyal to the friends and lovers she meets along the way. In a time of turmoil, in a land still gripped by medieval concepts, she struggles on to find her ultimate destiny.
Tanya's life takes her from rural Sweden into Russia where she is swept into life in Moscow during the reign of Peter the Great, on to the Court of the Sun King, Louis XIV of France, and back to Russia where she is caught up in the Great Northern War between Russia and her original homeland, Sweden. Desired by many, she gives her heart to one man only, fighting against all odds to finally win happiness. Will she be able to achieve success where chances are scarce?
Fast-paced, compelling and exquisitely-written, "Tanya" offers readers an insight into the struggles of women over the centuries to be their own person; to make their own way in a world of men.

About the Author
Marianne Malthouse wrote her first historical novel in 1984, a Regency Romance entitled “Farnham's Folly.” This was published in the UK, and was followed by “Kerrigan's Curse” in 1985. These were Regency romances, with a dash of mystery and humour. Marianne was born in London and has lived in both Zambia and Australia, and now resides in Adelaide, South Australia, where she lives with her husband and her two elderly cats. Her busy work life as a Legal Secretary came to an end this year when she thought she was retiring, but the writing bug took hold again and she has now published her third novel, some 30 years after the last one. Her fourth novel is well on the way, and is another Regency romance, humorous and fun to read.
