About the Author
Mariana Calderon was born in the Cerro Gordo neighborhood in the village of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. On August 8, 1937, at six years and being motherless, her father took her to live with her aunt Paula, her husband Dispanio and two cousins Victor and Zoraida. She lived with them until she was 21, when she moved to New York. She married Eudis Calderon and then went to live in Chicago where her four sons and four daughters were born. Until 1998 they moved to Florida, where they live up to now. She started writing in 1991 and has always dreamed of writing a book of poems.
