Dry eye can have a serious impact on a patient's daily activities.

The Dry Eye Center at Center for Total Eye Care is one of the first facilities in Central Maryland to utilize a wide range of diagnostic technologies to pinpoint the underlying cause of a patient’s dry eye condition and create a customized treatment path to relief.

Dr. Christine Luzuriaga, OD, previously the head of a Pennsylvania dry eye clinic, now works alongside Dr. Cynthia Jun, one of Center for Total Eye Care’s longtime dry eye experts, to take a comprehensive and personalized approach to dry eye care.

This chronic condition in which poor tear quality or quantity prevents tears from adequately lubricating the eyes is a very common disease says Dr. Luzuriaga. “It is also often under-diagnosed and under-treated. Dry eye can have a serious impact on a patient's daily activities. Symptoms generally include fluctuating vision, difficulty reading at work or in school, eye fatigue at the end of the day, watering eyes, and contact lens discomfort, to name only a few,” she says.

“This is not something new we are treating,” says Dr. Jun. “Dr. Luzuriaga and I have been identifying and treating dry eye for many years. However, thanks to recent diagnostic advancements and our practice’s investment in them, we’re able to even more effectively select the best treatment options for each patient. In addition to incorporating these latest dry eye tests, including Tear Osmolarity and InflammaDry, we've added exam slots for the sole purpose of examining dry eye so that we are able to dedicate adequate time to determining the etiology of patient symptoms, educating the patients, and implementing a customized treatment plan.”
