World-renowned scientist Karl Maramorosch shares the first 100 years of his life in his new memoir, “The Thorny Road to Success: A Memoir” (published by iUniverse). The story of his life and travels, he recalls experiences in World War II, his immigration to the United States, and his 60-plus year scientific career that netted him the Wolf Prize in Agriculture and two Fulbright awards.

From Austria to China and the United States to India, Maramorosch covers his many travels, experiences, hardships and adventures throughout the world. It is a story of enduring optimism and perseverance even in the face of the ravages of war, the horrors of concentration camps and the pressures of scientific discovery.

In spite of his numerous accomplishments in science, Maramorosch believes his most significant contribution “has been stimulating international collaboration. I consider that there is one language that we have in common, and that is the language of science, that can bring all people together,” he says.

Including over 200 photos from his life, Maramorosch hopes readers will enjoy this glimpse into a long and successful life, despite the thorns that got in the way.
