About the Author
Nick Mezins was born in Riga, Latvia in 1936. He came to the U.S. in 1950 and started high school. Mezins graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Bronx, New York. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York in 1959 and received a commission in the regular Army. After more than 11 years on active duty, including three years in Vietnam, he became a civilian again. While working for a coal mining company, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Master of Science in Engineering in 1973. The Los Alamos National Laboratory hired him in 1974, where he worked as an engineer and section leader until retirement in 1993. Mezins is a licensed Professional Engineer in New Mexico and is retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel of Engineers.
