National CyberWatch Center Publishes Resource on Navigating Transfer Pathways for Cybersecurity Students

Studying cybersecurity is a challenge in itself; navigating the various academic pathways to further one’s education towards a career shouldn’t be. Interested stakeholders now have John Sener’s newly released white paper, “Transfer Pathways in Cybersecurity Education: Challenging Routes, Promising Practices, Possible Improvements,” to help them.

Studying cybersecurity is a challenge in itself; navigating the various academic pathways to further one’s education towards a career shouldn’t be. Interested stakeholders now have John Sener’s newly released white paper, “Transfer Pathways in Cybersecurity Education: Challenging Routes, Promising Practices, Possible Improvements,” to help them.

The white paper describes the challenges students face when seeking to use transfer pathways to reach their educational goals. This paper will help cybersecurity faculty and students understand the larger palette of pathways available as well as promising transfer practices from cybersecurity education and other fields. The paper also includes a proposal for improving transfer pathways for cybersecurity education.

“One of the common characteristics shared by these various types of transfer pathways, unfortunately, is that they are challenging and often quite difficult to negotiate, especially from the student perspective. The existing transfer pathway process is a challenging, complex, and at times even Byzantine system. This paper identifies several varieties of transfer pathways and describes the current state of practice as they relate to cybersecurity degree programs,” said Sener.

Sener’s paper can be found in the National CyberWatch Center Library, which combines existing educational and research resources and capabilities, innovative tools and state-of-the-art technologies to collect, synthesize and disseminate knowledge and content in cybersecurity education and research, as well as encourage use and adaptation.
