1. Friday Night Live! At Main Square – The Friday Night Live! Jazz Summer Concert Series line up is coming to a close with its final performance on August 21st. This free concert begins at 7pm with the Tucson based jazz quartet Raw Material will be performing some original compositions and arrangements by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter. Local restaurants are also in attendance with delicious food on hand. This concert is the perfect way to start a late summer weekend.
2. Salsa & Tequila Challenge – A treat for mature taste buds, the 5th Annual Salsa & Tequila Challenge will shake up the Tucson area on August 22nd in the La Encantada Shopping Center on Skyline Drive. From 7pm to 10pm, attendees 21 and over will be able to taste over 50 salsa variations and 25 tequila mixed drinks as well as beer, food, and dessert samplings. Ticket sales for this culinary competition support the Community Food Bank of Arizona and the Southern Arizona Arts and Culture Alliance. Tripps Travel Network invites travelers to come out and enjoy the samplings and taste the wares from the competitors in the Salsa and Tequila Challenge.
3. Cool Summer Nights – Escape the heat and join the fun at the Desert Museum in Tucson. Each week has a different theme, complete with special programs and family activities, starting with Science Rocks! on August 22nd and will feature mineral and rock activities and a display on nocturnal desert animals. August 29th is a “Blue Moon” Festival with visual arts and poetry as well as an outside stroll to watch the sun set and the moon rise. There will also be art activities and a free photography workshop. The final event of the year is on September 5th and is an End of Summer Fiesta. There will be areas with musicians and dancing. Each evening brings a special twist on this fantastic museum.
