Celebrate Earth Day during the month of April with Valencia Group hotels
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) April 05, 2016 -- Around the globe, companies and individuals are going green in an effort to protect and sustain natural resources. As Earth Day approaches on April 22, Valencia Group reflects on a year where numerous efforts have been undertaken to align its award winning properties, including Hotel Valencia Riverwalk in San Antonio, TX, Hotel Sorella CITYCENTRE in Houston, TX, Hotel Valencia Santana Row in San Jose, CA, Hotel Sorella Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO, and Lone Star Court in Austin, TX, with the hospitality company’s sensitivity to the environment.

Highlights of recently implemented and ongoing green programming include:
- Installation of motion-triggered lighting systems and energy-efficient lightbulbs
- Installation of low-flow toilets in public spaces and guestrooms
- Retrofitting of dishwasher spray nozzles to low-flow systems
- Conversion to biodegradable room keys
- Selection of glassware replacement focusing on 100 percent post-consumer recycled glass
- Selection of to-go boxes made from 100 percent compostable and biodegradable corn and soy paper
- Guest promotion of towel reuse
To mark Earth Day, properties in the Valencia Group collection will be joining the community in various efforts ranging from tree and seed planting projects to neighborhood beautification and community garden initiatives.
Century Square, the mixed-use destination and future home of the two newest Valencia Group hotels in College Station, TX will have a total of four century-old oak trees that will be relocated within the development site to accommodate for planned infrastructure and building improvements and to keep from having to cut down these majestic beauties.
Throughout April, Valencia Group hotels invite guests to toast its food and beverage program’s focus on locally sourced ingredients with a special menu of Sustainable Sips cocktail offerings, which utilize gins, vodkas and whiskeys that have no additives and integrate organic botanicals such as thyme, rosemary, lavender and sage. Stop into Vbar, Monnalisa, Bar Rosso, and Water Trough to sample each of the four selections or treat yourself to one at home with the following recipes.
California Crush
- 1 ½ oz. Blue Ice vodka
- ¾ oz. Veev
- 4 lime wedges
- 2-4 each of raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry
- 1 ½ tsp. sugar
Muddle berries and sugar in a shaker. Add ice, vodka and lime wedges. Shake and pour into a glass. Garnish with blueberry and raspberry.
Spanish Rose
- 1 ½ oz. Cap Rock gin
- ¾ oz. Licor 43
- 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
- ¾ oz. rosemary syrup (or muddled rosemary)
- ½ oz. pomegranate juice
Add spirits, lemon juice and rosemary syrup in a shaker. Shake and strain over ice in a wine glass. Top with pom juice. Garnish with a rosemary sprig or fruit.
Tea Garden Cooler
- 1½ oz. Cap Rock gin
- 1 oz. lime juice
- ¾ oz. simple syrup
- 4 basil leaves
- 3 cucumber wheels
- Club soda
In a shaker, muddle cucumber and basil in lime juice and simple syrup. Add ice and gin. Shake and strain into a tall glass with ice and soda. Garnish with cucumber wheel and basil leaves.
Whiskey Smash
- 2 oz. Whistle Pig whiskey (option to substitute with 1 oz. of Veev)
- 2 lemon quarters
- Fresh mint leaves
- ¾ oz. simple syrup
In a shaker, muddle lemons and mint with syrup. Add whiskey and ice. Shake and strain over crushed ice. Garnish with mint sprig and lemon twist.
