Valley Presbyterian Hospital Diabetes Educator Named a Finalist for Nursing Award, Sandra Pieschel, MPA, BSW, RN-CDE, Nominated for Nurse.com Nursing Excellence Award
Van Nuys, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- Valley Presbyterian Hospital is pleased to announce that Clinical Diabetes Educator Sandra Pieschel recently was named as a finalist for Nurse.com’s Nursing Excellence GEM Awards 2014 for the California region. Ms. Pieschel is among a select group of nurses nominated for their outstanding contributions to patients, the health care industry and the collective nursing profession.
Honorees will be announced at an event held June 27 at the Hilton Los Angeles/ Universal City. Nominees selected from each state are then considered for the Nurse.com National Nurses of the Year award.
“It is an honor to be a nominee for Nurse.com’s national award,” said Ms. Pieschel. “My patients drive and motivate me to strive toward improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for those living with diabetes.”
Ms. Pieschel’s expertise and roles have spanned the continuum of care. She is an RN with more than 30 years of diabetes management experience, including inpatient and outpatient hospital programs. She specializes in adult, pediatric and gestational diabetes. In addition, Ms. Pieschel also has a concurrent 30 years of experience in cardiac rehabilitation, and specializes in exercise therapies for both cardiovascular conditions and glucose management.
“Sandra has developed an effective system for applying evidence-based interventions to improve clinical outcomes and affect organizational change in an environment with low readiness levels, where change is difficult,” said Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer Lori Burnell.
In addition to her work at VPH, Ms. Pieschel also is an active member of several organizations, including the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators, California Association of Diabetes Educators, California Society for Cardiac Rehabilitation, California Tobacco Coalition, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
