Vesta Talent Agency Reviews and Offers Insider Tips to Actors and Actresses
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) January 02, 2014 -- Jane Schulman, owner of Vesta Talent Agency, is well aware of the many issues and obstacles that actors and actresses often face. Having run one of the most prestigious boutique talent agencies for several years has afforded Schulman a wealth of knowledge that could be of great benefit to newcomers to the industry. Fortunately, Schulman has always been more than willing to share her knowledge for the betterment of future actors and actresses. The reviews and tips from Jane Schulman of Vesta Talent Agency are noteworthy because of her standing in the industry.
According to Schulman, networking is an obvious and important strategy, but many actors tend to go about the process in the wrong way. “People tend to look at networking and think that they need to make as many contacts as possible, so they take on what many refer to as the ‘shotgun approach,’” said Schulman. “The problem with this is that it makes it very unlikely that a bond is developed with these contacts, making it less likely that they will offer any help when it is needed.” Schulman advised that networking works better when the actor or actress works on getting to know the contact on a more personal level. Be upfront about what you’re looking for. Review your personal relationships to ensure they are based on genuine communication, that will mean these relationships are far more likely to yield an eventual professional benefit.
Vesta Talent Agency also places a great deal of emphasis on temperament and work ethic. “Reputation is a big deal in this industry, and the quickest way to develop a poor reputation is by having a bad attitude and shoddy work ethic,” said Schulman. “Talented actors and actresses are relatively easy to find, but the ones who work the most on the jobs that they want to work on have talent, an even temperament and an exceptional work ethic.”
We asked Schulman what significance of an actor’s ability to take direction plays in his or her success. Schulman noted it’s not only an enormous factor in the actor’s success but in the show’s success for all actors to deliver the director’s vision. It’s usually a disaster when a show has multiple directors. Schulman stated that “direction by consensus is the surest way to water down creativity.” Schulman also noted that the ability to take direction plays a significant role in an actor’s ability to procure a role. Usually the audition process includes a delicate balance of the actor bringing his vision to the role and being open to the direction and nuance the director is requesting. “It is important to recognize that the people in charge have a vision of what they want from their production, so an actor has to ensure that they are aware of that vision and that their performance is in step with what the director has in mind. If an actor has his or her own preconceived notions of what a character should be and refuses to yield to the director’s vision, it could be perceived as an inability of skill or creativity, which makes it much more difficult for that actor to find work in the future.”
