2015 Virtual Vocations Key Findings Telecommuting Statistical Report

Over 1,600 Virtual Vocations jobseekers provided valuable insight and data surrounding telecommuting trends and benefits in 2015.

To help job seekers find careers and identify states that offer the strongest telecommuting job opportunities in the coming year, today Virtual Vocations released their 2015 Year-End Report that highlights key statistical findings and data on telecommuting trends from 2015.

Telecommuting continues to grow in popularity as more people demand the work-life balance that working remotely offers. The benefits associated with remote work arrangements are abundant for everyone from recent college grads to retirees. Telecommuting increases employee satisfaction, improves productivity, reduces commuting time and expenses, and provides precious free time to spend with family and friends.

"Every year, we add more telecommuting job opportunities to our database. Just a few years ago, we were excited when we found 500 new job leads a week; today, we enter more than 500 new leads a day,” said Laura Spawn, Founder and CEO of Virtual Vocations, the largest and most comprehensive online database of telecommute-only jobs. “While our research from last year offers excellent insight into which careers and states will offer the best telecommuting opportunities in 2016, it’s important to remember telecommuting lends itself to just about any career you can think of, including data entry, administrative, customer service and writing jobs.”

The Virtual Vocations research team hand-screened over 500,000 telecommute jobs last year and has poured over the data to help identify careers and states with the most growth potential in 2016.

  • The Top 10 Careers with the Most Telecommuting Jobs

For the second year in a row, California, Texas, New York, and Florida remained the top states for available telecommute work. Pennsylvania moved ahead of Illinois for fifth place and Massachusetts became the new number nine state for available telecommute jobs, removing Ohio from the list completely.

The survey revealed what many already know about the positive upswing in job satisfaction for remote workers: 78% or respondents reported experiencing an increase in quality of life after becoming a telecommuter and 85% have experienced a decrease in work-related expenses.
