Media Makers Celebrate 35th Anniversary of Women in Film and Video at Policy in Washington, DC, with a 70s-Themed Party
Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 06, 2015 -- Women in Film & Video (WIFV) is proud to announce its 35th Anniversary Celebration on March 12, 2015, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at Policy in Washington, DC. The event features door prizes, a photo booth, and a 70s-spinning DJ. The evening will be emceed by award-winning documentary filmmaker, Erin Essenmacher, President of WIFV. The event is open to the general public.
To mark the milestone, WIFV launched special 35th anniversary events beginning in March 2014, and received accolades and support from influential industry leaders along the way. The organization was one of only three finalists for the 29th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards for Outstanding Service in the Arts in Washington, DC, and WIFV member Lance Kramer was honored for his work with the Innovation in the Arts award. Board members attended the 2nd Annual Symposium on Gender in Media at the United States Peace Institute at the special invitation of Geena Davis, and were delighted to have select members invited to a private reception for award-winning documentary filmmaker Alfred Maysles after he was presented with the National Medal of Arts by President Obama.
To commemorate its 35th anniversary, Women in Film & Video launched the Documentary Seed Fund campaign, with a fundraising target of $35,000 to be awarded to WIFV filmmakers. Founded and created by board member Monica Lee Bellais, Spotlight on Screenwriters inaugural spec-catalogue was featured at WIFV’s annual ScriptDC conference, and is currently under review with major Los Angeles and New York producers. "From tightening my leave-behind sheet, to re-imagining my story's logline, to the creation of a beautiful one-sheet poster, WIFV DC's Spotlight on Screenwriters has pushed me forward to keep thinking, working, and reaching for the best with my writing and how I present myself to the film industry," says screenwriter and producer Via Buksbazen.
Women in Film & Video strives to continually search out thought leaders and celebrate outstanding accomplishments in the film and media industry. Today, several of the organization's founding members are still active participants. Founded in 1979 by a small group of local filmmakers, WIFV is dedicated to advancing the professional development and achievement for professionals working in all areas of film, television, multimedia and related disciplines, with a focus on recognizing women leaders in the industry and providing mentorship to young media makers.
