WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), a leading provider of managed care services for government-sponsored health care programs, recently celebrated the grand opening of its Syracuse, N.Y., Welcome Room serving Onondaga County. WellCare’s Welcome Rooms are neighborhood health care information, education and sales centers that are open to the public and staffed by WellCare associates who can answer questions about Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Long Term Care health plans.

At the event, WellCare hosted local leaders including Van Robinson, president, Syracuse City Council; Carl Thomas, economic development specialist representing Mayor Stephanie Miner; and Lindsay Bednarczyk, constituent service representative for state Sen. John DeFrancisco (R – Syracuse).

“I am pleased to welcome WellCare to our downtown neighborhood,” said Miner. “WellCare’s employees will be a welcome addition to our growing urban core, which is quickly becoming the ‘it’ location to live, work, and play in Central New York.”

At the grand opening, WellCare presented a $2,000 donation to the Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger and homelessness in Auburn, Binghamton, Ithaca and Syracuse.

“We believe that the fight to end hunger and homelessness requires strong support from community partners,” said Alan Thornton, CEO, the Rescue Mission. “We are gratified that WellCare shares our community spirit. This donation supports our mission to share hope, restore dignity and change lives one person at a time.”

WellCare operates 20 Welcome Rooms throughout Connecticut, Florida, New York and Texas. They offer a comfortable environment where visitors can ask questions about health plans, find out if they are eligible for extra benefits, get online to search for more information and enroll in a WellCare health plan. The WellCare Welcome Room is located at The Galleries, 441 S. Salina St., Suite 121, Syracuse, N.Y., 13202.

As of June 30, 2013, WellCare serves approximately 84,000 Medicaid plan members, 41,000 Medicare Advantage plan members, 40,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members and 4,700 Managed Long Term Care members in New York.
