September in New York City is host to a number of fairs and festivals as the city celebrates the shifting seasons. Visitors can appreciate the tail-end of summer warmth lingering in the city while appreciating the crisp autumn air and all of the delicious foods that come with fall and festivals. Richmond County Fair
August 31st - September 2nd
The Richmond County Fair is a decades-old NY tradition beloved by locals and visitors alike. The fair is host to circus performers, crafts, a petting zoo, pony rides, live music, street performers, classic car exhibits, rides, food, pie eating contests and more, making it a great time for a fun date or family activity. Fair admission costs $16 per person, or $11 for seniors while kids under 30” can enter for free. Proceeds benefit Historic Richmond Town so that future generations can continue to enjoy this NY landmark, which makes a great stop even if visitors can’t attend the fair.

Day or night, Top of the Rock features three floors of indoor and outdoor decks which offer full panorama views of the city. September is a beautiful time to view New York City as the season starts to shift from summer to fall, changing the way the sunlight falls on the city and the leaves begin to change. View it all from Rockefeller’s Top of the Rock – great for a romantic sunset date, or a breathtaking family excursion. Top of the Rock is conveniently located near a number of great NYC Hotels making it an easy destination for tourists to visit.

NYC Fashion Week

Famous designers gather in NYC to premier their 2014 collections, and it’s a great time to be in the city, with everyone dressing up to the nines and flaunting their favorite fashions. While walking the city streets and taking in all the different styles, visitors can also flaunt their own. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for many of the famous names that hang out in NYC this week!

Amazing NYC Fashion Week Scavenger Hunt

Kick off fashion week and explore New York City at the same time while performing physical and mental challenges along the way. This scavenger hunt revolves around famous fashion landmarks, and would-be hunters can sign up as individuals or a team. To participate in the scavenger hunt at least one team member must have access to a smart phone to utilize the app that organizes the hunt. Tickets to the hunt cost $20 and include a free beer for every person who crosses the finish line. Visiting NYC later in the month? The same group hosts a two-hour hunt through Brooklyn on September 21st.

87th Annual Feast of San Gennaro

Various events launch at different times throughout this popular festival. Compete in a cannoli eating contest, watch the parade or visit for the celebratory High Mass in honor of San Gennaro. This popular 11-day feast is expected to attract more than a million guests from all over the world so tourists and locals alike can experience the true melting-pot nature of NY. The central day of the celebration is Thursday September 19th, the official Saint Day. Visitors can enjoy musical entertainment, a variety of ethnic foods and more every day of the feast.

Relieve the kids’ back to school blues with a family trip to the Lion King (866-870-2717). This screen to stage musical classic has been delighting theater goers for over a decade with its beloved story, vibrant costumes and foot-tapping songs. With big songs (and bigger hair) this smash hit tells the story of a small-town girl and a boy from South Detroit trying to chase their dreams in LA.

31st Annual Queens County Fair

This popular county fair is host to a number of traditional fair activities such as livestock and produce competitions, pie eating contests, carnival rides and arts and crafts. Visitors can enjoy pig-racing, the Amazing Maize Maze, lumberjack shows, live music, food vendors and more. Admission is $8 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under.

Dumbo Arts Festival
September 27th – September 29th
6pm – 9pm (Friday), 12pm – 9 pm (Saturday), 12pm-6pm (Sunday)
DUMBO Between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, Brooklyn NY
Art lovers can enjoy indoor and outdoor art installations and exhibits throughout the DUMBO Art District, including digital art and large scale projections. Tour artists’ studios or watch them creating street murals. Dancers and poets also perform throughout the neighborhood on street corners and in the park. Outdoor projections will be viewable through midnight each night of the festival. Admission is free!
