WomenHeart Uses Social Media to Launch Heart-healthy Social Media Campaign for American Heart Month
(PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- February is American Heart Month, and WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease is celebrating by using a social media app to raise awareness about the importance of heart health for women.
WomenHeart invites women of all ages to take charge of their heart health this month by taking The Heart Health Checkup: a fun social media quiz that helps women assess their risk for heart disease. By answering a few simple questions, every woman can gain a better understanding of heart disease, as well as her own risk level, and take preventative action.
WomenHeart is working with 1st Degree Marketing on the campaign, and are using a Facebook app for the campaign from CafeGive Social, a cause marketing and app development company.
To reach as many women as possible, WomenHeart chose to use social media to spread its message of heart health, and to raise awareness of heart disease - the leading cause of death among women. Studies show that women overwhelmingly use social media more than men (72% of women use Facebook, compared to 62% of men), making it the perfect channel for WomenHeart to reach a wide audience and make the greatest possible impact.
Every time people tweet and share the Heart Health Checkup through March 1st, they will help educate and empower all the women in their life, and spread awareness about this important issue.
More Reasons To “Heart” This Campaign
Per the American Heart Association, heart disease claimed more women's lives last year than all forms of cancer combined. In fact, 90% of women have one or more risk factors associated with developing heart disease. Unfortunately, many are unaware of the warning signs of heart disease, as well as what steps they can take now to stay healthy.
WomenHeart aims to change that. Founded in 1999, WomenHeart is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for women living with or at risk for heart disease. Over the past fifteen years, WomenHeart has leveraged social media and the web to build a dynamic online support community for women and families of women suffering heart disease.
Now, WomenHeart is taking its online initiatives to the next level with the Heart Health Checkup. The Checkup is hosted directly on WomenHeart’s Facebook. Working with 1st Degree and CafeGive Social, WomenHeart is asking everyone to take five minutes to complete the Heart Health Checkup.
The Checkup asks a few simple questions about the participants' health and lifestyle to find out their risk level for heart disease. After completing the survey, they can simply click the Facebook and Twitter icons to instantly encourage their friends and family to take charge of their heart health as well.
Spread The Love, and Awareness
"Social media is one of the most powerful tools available to raise awareness about heart disease, and to educate our loved ones about this important issue," said Sandra Morris, CEO and Co-Founder of CafeGive Social. "We are excited to partner with WomenHeart and 1st Degree for this life-saving campaign."
Education is one of the most powerful tools available to combat heart disease. Knowing the risk factors and the best ways to stay well can help women lead longer, healthier lives.
When someone completes the Heart Health Checkup, they also get 5 quick tips for improving their heart health, and can sign up to receive tips and updates from WomenHeart.
