The upcoming psychological thriller feature film, Devil's Path, will make its New York premiere at the prestigious NewFest Film Festival, New York's largest presenter of LGBTQ+ media. This year marks the festival's 30th anniversary. Devil's Path follows two men who meet on a cruising hiking trail and quickly find themselves caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Devil's Path will screen on Saturday, October 27th at 7:00pm and on Sunday October 28th at 4:30pm at Cinepolis 8. Director/Writer, Matthew Montgomery, will be in attendance for the Q&A's that will follow. Devil's Path comes off of a successful festival run, debuting at FilmOut San Diego where it won Best First Narrative Feature and Best Supporting Actor (JD Scalzo, jaded). Stephen Twardokus (An American Ghost Story) took home Best Actor at California Independent Film Festival, and Matthew Montgomery will be awarded the First Time Director Award at qFLIX Worcester, Massachusetts.
Initially starting out as his thesis producing project while studying film at the University of Southern California, Matthew Montgomery went on to partner with actor/writer Stephen Twardokus who developed the project with him. Devil's Path marks Matthew Montgomery's directorial debut. Previous roles as an actor include David Lewis's Redwoods, David Kittredge's Pornography: A Thriller, and Rob Williams's Back Soon.
The place, Devil's Path, was originally inspired by an actual hiking trail in the Catskill Mountains of New York with the same name. It's considered to be arguably one of the most difficult hiking trails in the country. "I wanted the characters to be trekking through rough terrain as a metaphor for their constant struggle with trying to connect," says Montgomery.
As stated on the film festival website, NewFest gives voice and visibility to all facets of the LGBTQ experience and is dedicated to bringing together filmmakers and audiences to build a community that passionately supports LGBTQ cinema and storytelling. Devil's Path will screen at the following times and locations during the festival:
Saturday, October 27, 2018 7:00pm Cinepolis 8 - 260 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011
Sunday, October 28, 2018 4:30pm Cinepolis 8 - 260 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011
