We believe that by supporting events like Candy Mountain, we can help the children of today connect with their communities and get on a path that will help them become the leaders of tomorrow

A Forever Recovery, an open-ended drug and alcohol treatment program that gets clients off to a great start and gives them a solid foundation in recovery they can believe in, proudly sponsored the Candy Mountain special event in support of the Flint, MI school system, and various non-profit organizations that support education and academic growth.

The event, which owes its name to a spectacular 2000 lb candy mountain that was shared with thrilled children, took place at Flint’s Word of Life Christian Church on October 31, 2014. The campaign was coordinated by Community Adults Urging Student Excellence (“The CAUSE”), which promotes education by providing additional monetary support to the area’s severely under-funded local school system.

“We’re pouring back into organizations that are about educational excellence,” commented George Wilkinson, the Pastor of Word of Life and a member of The CAUSE. “It’s going to provide them with the resources they need to help our children develop, grow and mature in a progressive manner.”

A Forever Recovery’s donation check was presented on behalf of the organization by former Detroit Lions great Herman Moore. In addition to supporting the Flint school system, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be allocated to various non-profit organizations that support education and academic growth.

“We believe that by supporting events like Candy Mountain, we can help the children of today connect with their communities and get on a path that will help them become the leaders of tomorrow,” commented A Forever Recovery’s CEO Per Wickstrom. “And with organizations like The CAUSE and Word of Life Christian Church leading the way, I think that a brighter future with a stronger community is a only question of when -- not if.”

Added Per Wickstrom: “We also wanted to show today’s kids that they don’t need drugs and alcohol to enjoy life. They just need to feel that they’re part of the community, and surrounded by positive role models who truly care about their health and happiness.”
