A Co-Production with PBS’ Travelscope “Taiwan Matsu Festival & Islands” and “Taiwan Naturally” Nominated for Emmy Awards
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) May 07, 2019 -- The co-production of “Taiwan Matsu Festival and Islands” and “Taiwan Naturally” between Taiwan Tourism Bureau and Public Broadcasting Service’s (PBS) popular travel series “Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope” was nominated for the 46th Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Award's Outstanding Directing for a Single Camera Lifestyle, Culinary, Travel or Educational and Informational Program.
Joseph Rosendo, director and host of Travelscope, expressed, “When people consider Taiwan, they most likely think of its bustling capital Taipei. Yet Taiwan is more natural and undeveloped than you think. Nearly 60% of the country is forested, with 9 national parks, 13 national scenic areas, and 18 forest recreation areas. On my many travels to Taiwan, I’ve learned that there’s always something new to discover on this beautiful island—Ilha Formosa. From modern cities to indigenous villages; from island getaways to mountain resorts, I never cease to be amazed by all that Taiwan has to offer.”
Rosendo’s participation in the Taiwan Birdathon organized by Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Administration left him impressed by the dedication to bird conservation that allows more than 600 bird species to thrive in Taiwan. In a collaborative effort with the international community in Asia over the past 30 years, the endangered Black-faced Spoonbill population has grown from less than 300 to upwards of 4,000 individuals in present day.
“Taiwan is a modern prosperous country. Yet they know that truly great people honor nature above profits, preservation before development, and understands that it is essential to always make space for that which thrills the heart, replenishes the spirit, and feeds the soul,” Rosendo said in admiration. “I just discovered here that nature is not a place you escape to; nature is part of who you are. The religious deities, sacred icons, and national treasures, are all connected to the natural world.”
The Director General of Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Dr. Yung-hui Chou noted, “The belief of Mazu is widespread across Taiwan. With the Bureau’s participation, not only did the Travelscope team captured the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage celebration and discovered the cultural roots of Mazu in Matsu Island, but also experienced birdwatching in the ecologically rich areas. Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope gives the international audience a glimpse into Taiwan’s cultural and natural beauty, and reflects our commitment to Tourism 2020: A Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy.”
The Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, Ambassador Abraham Wen-Shang Chu said, “I’ve been to over 80 countries. Taiwan is a unique place on this planet offering road biking along the mountains, with heights of 3,000 meters (9,800 ft.) above sea level. The magnificent views and lovely Formosa rock monkeys are easy to approach on your bike journey through Taiwan. It is the best green tour”.
The Director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau's Los Angeles office, Brad Shih, added, “Birds are one of the important indicators of ecotourism. The Aogu Wetland Forest Park now has a rich ecosystem and habitat after returning to natural state. This is a successful case of environmental education and land reclamation.”
“Taiwan Naturally” opens with the story of the swan serenade at the Mingchih Forest Recreation Area, and explores the Jioujhihze Hot Springs, Nanfangao fish harbor, and Shen Yen Teppanyaki along the Northeast and Yilan Coast. Through the lenses of Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope, North American audiences can experience Taiwan’s natural attractions, bird conservation, alpine forest villas, and coastal fish harbors and discover the charm of Taiwan’s sustainable tourism.
