AUSTIN, Texas, July 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vindico Medical Education is presenting a series of 12 live educational events across the country to improve the diagnosis and management of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
A Look at the Latest Evidence for Starting and Sustaining IPF Treatment is designed to educate pulmonologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other health care professionals involved in the management of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic progressive lung disease of unknown cause. Distinguishing IPF from other types of interstitial lung disease is imperative so that misdiagnosis and delayed or inappropriate management can be avoided. In late 2018, updated guidelines for IPF diagnosis were published by the American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society, Japanese Respiratory Society, and Latin American Thoracic Society providing additional diagnostic criteria. Furthermore, the recent approval of 2 antifibrotic therapies, pirfenidone and nintedanib, for the treatment of IPF have dramatically enhanced the therapeutic landscape and have the potential to improve long-term outcomes. In this live satellite symposium, experts in the field will review the latest clinical guidelines for a timely and accurate diagnosis of IPF and evaluate the most recent evidence-based treatment strategies, with an emphasis on optimizing long-term outcomes for patients with IPF.
The activity co-chairs for the ILD series are Steven D. Nathan, MD and Amy L. Olson, MD, MSPH. Additional faculty presenters include Kevin R. Flaherty, MD, MS; Paul W. Noble, MD and Maria Padilla, MD.
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Incorporate knowledge of the latest clinical guidelines to accurately and quickly diagnose patients with IPF and initiate appropriate evidence-based treatments.
- Integrate the most recent clinical advances, including impact on hospitalization, treatments, and life expectancy, into optimal treatment strategies for patients with IPF.
- Utilize strategies to improve communication with patients with IPF to highlight the importance of continuing treatment to optimize long-term outcomes.
