A New Segment of "Information Matrix" with Laurence Fishburne to discuss TMS Treatment
ORLANDO, Fla. (PRWEB) September 08, 2018 -- Laurence Fishburne, the successful American actor and philanthropist who is the host of “Information Matrix,” will introduce a new segment on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which is a technique to treat depression.
Depression is a mood disorder interfering with positive feelings, thoughts and behaviors, causing sadness or hopelessness. The center of emotional processing is the amygdala, which receives input from other brain functions. The hypothalamus controls mood, anger, and libido.
While there are psychiatric treatments for depression, that do not work for everyone, such as antidepressants and psychotherapy, and those not successfully treated by electroconvulsive therapy (ETC) or “shock therapy”.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation is brain stimulation, which is noninvasive. TMS affects the central nervous system activity. Powerful magnetic fields are applied to specific areas of the brain that involved depression. No anesthesia is required. The side effects consist of a headache during or after the treatment, but these effects are more tolerated than medications or ECT. However, TMS is not recommended for people who have a risk of seizures with epilepsy and those with severe neurologic severe issues or a history of a head injury. The show will discuss the treatments with specialists and with people who have suffered from depression and received TMS treatments.
The program serves as an educational and inspirational tool for audiences who wish to learn more about various topics affecting society. "Information Matrix" boasts an award-winning production staff.
